I like the way these two artists compare formally. Garrett comes from zine culture and Michael Spafford from painting-as-painting, but they are both concerned about movement in space and activating the quality of flow.
Michael Spafford is one of the best painters who ever lived in the Northwest. He was great when I was in school and he’s even better now. In addition, he supports everybody all the time.
