Robert Yoder was working with cut-up traffic signs. I have been working with cut-up traffic signs. Same medium = imitation.
I became curious when someone in the gallery mentioned that our work looked very similar. “Who is Robert Yoder?” A web search took me to his current work and your little blog.
Hmm, Orange and black… Maybe we should talk.
John, I think you mean Robert Yoder is a Cecil Touchon imitator. Just kidding, but when I came across Yoder’s work a while ago I was stunned by the uncanny resemblance to some of my work. But mine are all paper based collages and paintings made from the collage designs, not chopped up wooden signs like Yoder. I notice Yoder moved on to more of a El Lissitzky Proun series style which I think is interesting. Another artist who works confusingly like me is another Robert – Robert Kelly who even uses a whole range of my exact same techniques.
