Akio Takamori creates figures that appear to be lost in thought, caught in that brief moment during any day when the body pauses and the mind drifts across its own mental sky.
Born and raised in Japan, Seattle’s Takamori pays his country of origin the honor of taking it lightly. Simply, even bluntly made with deft, loose color washes, his figures include spirit babies with oversize heads, priests, warriors, peasants and royalty with the folds of their gowns flapping.
