A pre-emptive radio strike on this hollow opinion. If I were his editor, I’d sit Sorkin down to take notes on this stuff: smart sports anchors, now there’s a twist worthy of a progressive economics President from New Hampshire. (Silly wag [Richard Sandomir], West Wing WAS a comedy, Studio 360 was the drama!) And now that the Times has adopted yet more RNC talking point jargon by incorporating “center-right” governance into the official lexicon, will that paper (in the person of Keller) ever stop breaking my bloodied heart?

I will repeat here what I have always said about Sports Night: once each episode (especially season one, before the stroke and the sexual assault made the overall tone a bit too somber), the writing on this show would cause me to burst into tears without warning. Because it was so good, so original, just better than anything else out there. It used to happen to me with West Wing as well (Studio 360 seemed too forced, like they were trying to make set-ups into moments without in happening naturally). Not all good half-hour comedies are rehashes of The Dick Van Dyke Show.
