In today’s episode, we consider evolving public perceptions of artists as community members and change-makers, based on nationally representative survey data. A transcript is available on the NEA website.
As a community arts center, in our second year when COVID struck, we were able to open our doors and provide much-needed creative social interactions through our classes and events. It is so refreshing to hear that so many in the public recognized the arts as contributing to the healing and recovery through Covid. Our community is still in deep need of mental health recovery. The arts, and community arts education in particular, provide safe spaces for the creative community to gather and share their humanity. From 2019 to the present our small organization has tripled in size and continues to grow as demand for rich art experiences grows within our community.
What a great episode. I am involved in a project to create an arts district her in Syracuse NY. The question of how we, artists and arts advocates, are seen by the community is extremely relevant . I hope to see more studies like these.
