My ex-boyfriend recently alerted me to the fact that my beloved Dartmouth Aires have been on The Sing-Off on NBC this season. Who knows where the incessant Dartmouth alumni alerts were about that, but I’M SURE GLAD THE NEW SPORTS CENTER IS ALMOST DONE, Alumni Relations Office. I used to cut through the gym to get home in the cold senior year, so I guess it did me some good.
The Dartmouth Aires, though! I had this crazy host for my prospective student weekend at Dartmouth who made me go to every a cappella concert offered–and they were plentiful–instilling life-long support.
That poor ex had to suffer through the…gosh, I think 4 CDs?…that I owned on car trips, so I’m glad he’s enjoying the Aires now.*
Recently, my assistant Declan’s mom suggested we work for the Aires (his brother went to Dartmouth, too). Gotta love the parental backseat career driving. I would have to insist that they bring back Jim McNicholas ’01 to sing ‘Freedom’, Adam Ballard ’00 to sing ‘Better Man’, Eli Jorne ’02 to sing ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ and Derrick Senft ’03 to sing…whatever he wanted because every girl/boy/rock just wanted to marry that guy.
OK so VOTE FOR THE AIRES tonight! I’m sure you can figure out how to cast your support for the group that came down to to the Ledyard canoe club to sing happy birthday to me when I turned 20.
*A quick phone conversation just now confirms that, yes, “Remember when you made me listen to 6 hours of a cappella on the way down to Virginia???”
