The Gray Lady has the story:
When the Wildlife Conservation Society
recently discovered another beaver living in the Bronx River – the
first to be spotted there in three years, and only the second in two
centuries – it did the neighborly thing and asked local residents to
help name the floppy-haired, buck-toothed little critter. And when the Bronx Zoo
opened up the competition to online voting, it all but guaranteed the
end result: ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Justin Beaver. On Friday, the Wildlife Conservation Society said “the overwhelming majority of the votes” in a poll at bronxzoo.com were cast for the name “Justin Beaver,” almost certainly inspired by Justin Bieber, the 16-year-old pop singer and sometime “C.S.I.” star.
Justin – the beaver, not the Bieber – joins his companion José the
beaver, who was discovered near the Bronx Zoo in early 2007 and named
for Rep. José E. Serrano.
David Itzkoff reports that, “It is not yet known how much Justin Beaver charges per show or what perks he requests on his touring rider, but watch for him to have more than 5,000,000 Twitter followers in a week.”
Sadly, the Twitter handle @justinbeaver is taken. This is truly unfortunate, since I’m fairly certain my true life calling would have been to Tweet as Justin Beaver.
“no water lilies in the dressing room again! haha..it’s cool. i’m tight lol”
“”the U CHEW video is here!…the video is i meet as she is a log… i
fall 4 her branches…it is the story of me and her..she represents u”
Should the Bronx Zoo find any of the following animals, I’m happy to bequest them my client Muppet names:
