You know CDs don’t sell anymore. I know CDs don’t sell anymore. Should we all just throw in the towel?
Or should we knit the towel…
According to Pitchfork via TwentyFourBit, folksinger Marissa Nadler is selling her new CD on Etsy, the eBay-esque website for handmade and vintage items (the only requirement for submissions is that the seller is over the age of 20). Should you need, say, a “Steampunk Time Machine” ($100,000)…
…or a “Knitting in Biology 101” (no price listed, though estonia76 at msn dot com is “knitting furiously”)…
…Etsy is the place for you.
With so many artists self-releasing CDs anyway, why not design the packaging oneself and sell as an art piece in addition to an album? Nadler’s Etsy description reads:
Covers CD- a non-official collection of my favorite 17 covers I have done over the years
Handmade CD of my favorite covers
tracklist includes 17 songs- home recordings
I make the linocuts..cut the paper, burn the cds!I have a new record in the works and every cd you buy helps to make that possible. Thank you so much for your support.

It seems the idea is to fund her upcoming record, and I like that she doesn’t tell us what songs she’s covering. So go over to Etsy and support a creative CD release/funding/marketing idea and maybe drop 175 big-ones on an exquisite monster art doll while you’re there.
