According to The New York Times, approximately 48,500 people patronized the Bon Jovi concert in Central Park on Saturday, July 12th, while 63,000 came out to see Lang Lang and the NY Philharmonic in the same park on Tuesday, July 15th.

That’s not entirely accurate. Bon Jovi only gave out 48,500 tickets to the performance and while it was a “free” show, you needed a ticket to enter. So, yeah, Lang Lang trumped him, but good ‘ole John could have beat him had his been open to anyone from Jersey and beyond to come.
Many thanks to my little sister for bursting my bubble. From The NY Times re: Bon Jovi tickets, “A spokesman for NYC & Company, the city’s tourism organization, said that 67,500 tickets were distributed, but that only 50,000 people would be allowed on the Great Lawn. Most of those slots were taken on a first-come-first-served basis, and by about 7 p.m., overflow crowds were directed to areas surrounding the lawn to watch a live feed of the concert on giant screens.” Maybe next summer they’ll have to install these so-called “giant screens” for the Philharmonic in the Park concerts. -AA
