Well, he is something of a boar…

The far-right here in Germany is delighted with Trumps election. The glossy German magazine Compact, which caters to the racist, xenophobic far-right party Alternativ für Deutschland Party is an example. With the URL below you can check out the cover for the most recent issue, a photo of an arm clothed with the American flag shaking Euros out of a piggy bank. The title article is “Angriff auf deutsche Sparer: Zinsklau, Bansker, und Bargeldverbot.” (Attack on German Savers: Interest Thievery, Banksters, and Forbidden Paper Money.)

    https://www.compact-online.de/

Put in its obvious historical context, the coded message is obvious: conniving Jewish bankers are stealing the savings of honest, hardworking Germans.

Another article is partially entitled in English: “Pussies und Presstituierte gegen Trump.” (Pussies and Presstitutes against Trump.) Like the equally racist, alt-right Breitbart News, Compact sees itself as setting the record straight against a biased press.

I’ve watched this sort of thing for the 36 years that I’ve been an American expat in Germany. In 2005, one of Germany’s largest unions, IG Metal, published a title article in its magazine about American investment bankers. The title was “Die Aussauger” (The Blood Suckers.) The cover was of a cartoon figure of a huge deliriously greedy mosquito-like insect dressed in the Stars and Stripes. Again, an anti-American article couched in a classic anti-Semitic trope. You can see the cover here and its unmistakable associations:

We do indeed have problems with our financial industry, and our press has recently once again shown its failings. The challenge is to make meaningful, intelligent, constructive criticisms while distancing oneself from extremists. No easy task.

So, how do I delete your presence from the online world? Hm? How rude. You are no one. Do you understand and realize that REPUBLICANS contribute far more to the arts, and other nonprofits, than Democrats! Go away! Go, go, go!
