The whole “classical music to sell cars” trope is not news, but somehow the fact that a high-gloss coat of candy apple red backed by a drawing room-ready piece of piano noodling is still an effective way to move product fascinates me.* We should not ignore this pop culture fantasy, people! But, wait. Are we supposed to get off on the technical details? Oooohh, b flat major. Sounds positively scientific!
*More than that Lost episode did, at least.

I definitely think music in car commercials has a lot to do with the target market. For instance, for Lincoln MKV recently they were using Shiny Toy Guns cover of Bowie’s Major Tom in order to sell the car. Perhaps classical music as the background music is trying to portray the vehicle as a sophisticated type of experience rather than the Lincoln example where it’s cool and hip. Also, classical music seems to really apply more towards the luxury brands from what I have viewed.
