If you’re a systems wonk, or a lover of ecosystem/social system metaphors, give a listen to this recent lecture by Dr. Brian Walker on resilience and complex systems. He’s the co-author of the book I’m reading at the moment, Resilience Thinking (which I blogged about last month). And he offers some intriguing insights on what makes any system resilient, and what can suddenly cause that system to radically shift to another state of being.
And if it seems a stretch to compare your arts organization, the local arts community, or even our national and international cultural industries to shrubs, forests, and animal populations, go ahead and make the stretch. There’s good and useful stuff on the other side.
