Executive Director – Kansas City Repertory Theatre

Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep) is excited to welcome an innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial minded professional to serve as the company’s next Executive Director. Working in partnership with KCRep’s Artistic Director in a co-leadership relationship, the Executive Director will strengthen all operations by evaluating and implementing new systems and moving the company into a new era of independence and energy. This is a vital transformative moment as KCRep sunsets its longstanding affiliation agreement with the University of Missouri Kansas-City (UMKC).

As the management lead for the organization, the Executive Director will work tirelessly to ensure that financial resources are clearly identified and secured for ambitious growth, including the organization’s relocation to a new purpose-built building (or buildings) and that KCRep’s staff and Board understand how they will collectively contribute to greater brand expansion and significance within the region. With an eagerness to be a deeply connected leader, the Executive Director will thrive in bringing KCRep’s story to a wide and diverse audience, centering a welcoming spirit of inclusion in all outreach and communication. Management Consultants for the Arts has been engaged to facilitate this search. A full position description may be found here: https://www.mcaonline.com/searches/executive-director-kcrep

Organizational Profile

The origins of Kansas City Repertory Theatre go back to 1964, when Dr. Patricia A. McIlrath, a pioneer in the regional theatre movement and the chair of UMKC’s theatre department, rallied support for a locally rooted professional theatre company that would partner with UMKC and offer students practical experiences resulting in the founding of Missouri Repertory Theatre, ultimately to be rebranded as Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep) three decades later. KCRep currently programs a five-show season with three productions taking place in the 525-seat Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus (one of which is its annual production of A Christmas Carol) and two productions in the 319-seat Copaken Stage in downtown Kansas City. Significant efforts to reach the community are realized through such initiatives as KCRep For All (an annual tour of a KCRep production to local community sites that is free-of-charge to audiences), in-school student workshops, and arts engagement connected to all productions.
