Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center seeks Director of Marketing and Communications

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) invites applications for the role of Director of Marketing and Communications, a pivotal leadership position at the world’s premier chamber music institution.

About CMS:

CMS is renowned for its innovative performances, global reach, and dedication to elevating the art of chamber music both on stage and in the digital sphere. CMS is one of eleven constituents of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex in the world. The Chamber Music Society has its home in Alice Tully Hall – the finest hall in the world for chamber music. Through its performance, education, and recording/broadcast activities, it draws more people to chamber music than any other organization of its kind.

The Position:

The Director will play a critical role in shaping our public face, building on our legacy of excellence while charting new pathways for audience development and institutional growth. This is an extraordinary opportunity to join an organization at a time of significant momentum and artistic accomplishment.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications works closely with all CMS departments, driving a unified vision that showcases our vibrant, welcoming community and global impact. The Director will focus on growing audiences at concerts and educational events in New York City and at self-produced residencies around the country, supporting national and international tours, and collaborating with the Digital Content department to strategically create and promote digital initiatives. This position offers the chance to innovate and inspire. Leading a high-performing team, the Director will have the opportunity to shape a lasting legacy by advancing CMS’s brand as the leading voice in chamber music worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, advance plan, and oversee all Marketing and Communication initiatives of CMS.
  • Lead all strategic and budgetary initiatives for the department. Create detailed plans for larger marketing initiatives: setting and meeting goals, timelines, and delegating responsibilities across the team and external vendors.
  • Supervise all activities relating to marketing, public relations, and ticketing services.
  • Oversee and ensure the success of subscription, single ticket, and group sales campaigns, as well as student ticket initiatives at Lincoln Center and at self-produced residencies.
  • Oversee customer service policies and concert activities.
  • Provide marketing support for upwards of 70 national and international tour dates and residencies.
  • Coordinate the planning, production, execution, and distribution of digital marketing and content initiatives with the Digital Content department.
  • Monitor and maintain consistent brand execution across all materials and platforms.
  • Work closely with other CMS departments to support their marketing needs, providing strategic advice, and measuring the success of campaigns.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to advertising agencies, public relations firms, graphic designers, and to other external vendors.
  • Manage a team of five full-time staff, in addition to interns, and collaborate with union and non-union labor.

Attributes and Qualifications:

  • Record of achievement and growth in arts or event marketing, including leadership experience in a complex marketing department with a multi-person staff that operates on a high level of excellence.
  • Experience with event sales, ticketing, pricing, and inventory management, preferably in the performing arts.
  • Great team player, pro-active and responsive. CMS operates collaboratively, living by the same principles as chamber music.
  • Proven success managing multi-channel subscription and single ticket campaigns for both live and online performance seasons.
  • Proven success creating detailed plans for staff and external vendors for larger initiatives including setting and meeting goals, timelines, schedules, communicating and delegating responsibilities to the team.
  • Proven success creating and managing budgets.
  • Experience managing website development and maintenance.
  • Significant enthusiasm for the classical music repertoire.
  • Outstanding inclusive communication skills, including writing and editing, as well as verbal communication, with the ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituents.
  • Excellent design sensibility, creativity, and flexibility.
  • An eagerness to learn, understand, analyze and exploit new marketing trends and platforms, with a proven ability to set and meet goals and benchmarks, and to react quickly to data.
  • Facility with the MS365 platform, Google Analytics, Google Ad Management, SEO, SEM, social media, and email platforms. Strong problem-solving ability.
  • High energy and enthusiasm.

Desirable, but not Required:

  • Experience working with an external public relations firm.
  • Strong knowledge of, and facility with, Tessitura or other CRM systems.
  • Experience with project management applications or systems.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time position, working primarily from the CMS offices on the Lincoln Center campus, with a salary range of $110,000 to $125,000.
CMS offers competitive compensation that includes an excellent health insurance plan, dental and vision benefits, retirement plan, vacation, and generous paid time off.
