Tobi Tobias, Pulitzer Finalist
The 2012 Pulitzer Prizes have just been announced, and ArtsJournal has broken the blogger barrier: Tobi Tobias has been named as one of two finalists in the criticism category, for posts on her Seeing Things blog on ArtsJournal (which also hosts CultureGrrl).
Tobi was cited “for work appearing on ArtsJournal.com that reveals passion as well as
deep historical knowledge of dance, her well-expressed arguments coming
from the heart as well as the head.”
For the second year in a row, the winner in the criticism category has come from the Boston Globe—its film critic, Wesley Morris. Co-finalist with Tobias is Philip Kennicott, the Washington Post‘s art and architecture critic, “for his ambitious and insightful cultural criticism, taking on topical events from the uprisings in Egypt to the dedication of the Ground Zero memorial, causing readers to reflect on the world around them.”
Tobi’s work has appeared in numerous mainstream-media publications over the years. She began her illustrious stint on ArtsJournal in 2003. She hasn’t, at this writing, announced her Pulitzer plum on her own blog.
Let me be one of the first to warmly congratulate her!
