That’s right, art-lings. I’m not at Art Basel Miami again! Maybe I’ll surprise you (and myself) by going next year.
In the meantime, for my money (what money?) the best you-are(sort of)-there feeling can be had at the Miami Herald, which flooded the zone with four reporters and posted both a video and slide show to take you into the action. I also appreciated the coverage in the Wall Street Journal, which dispatched Kelly Crow for the serious stuff (how Latin American collectors, particularly Brazilians, have become the fair’s new power players) and Candace Jackson for the party stuff (where publisher Jason Binn is the power player, “ticking off the half dozen parties he’d RSVP’d for that evening”).
The NY Times has so far been AWOL, except for Linda Yablonsky‘s breezy reports for its style magazine’s The Moment blog.
[UPDATE: In Saturday’s paper, Karen Rosenberg of the Times finally weighs in. On Friday, the Times ate some of my own Sour Grapes Soufflé, publishing four pieces proclaiming how much fun you can have seeing contemporary art in Manhattan, without hopping a flight to Miami Beach.]
So what’s CultureGrrl doing here up north? I’m catching up this afternoon on some exhibitions I’ve missed, and reviving my inner hippie at the revival of “Hair” on Broadway tomorrow night (in my continuing nostalgia trip to iconic musicals of my youth).
How uncool is that?
